The numbers are in, and they show…overdose-deaths from prescription opioids have reached an 8-year-low in Ohio…
However, the Ohio Department of Health reports; overdose-deaths are up from street drugs such as cocaine, meth and fentanyl.
The numbers reflect 2017 compared to the previous year…
Erie County/Health department drug grant
The Erie County Health Department has been awarded a $2 million grant to help fight the drug epidemic.
The funds will be used to provide drug recognition training for law enforcement officers in the counties of Erie, Huron and Ottawa.
Lorain County/Man arrested for alleged school threats
The U-S Marshall’s Office has arrested a man in Lorain…
…a man they believe is responsible for calling in threats against Elyria High School.
18-year-old Javian Davis was found yesterday, hiding in a cabinet underneath a sink, in a home on East 34th in Lorain.
The U-S Marshall’s Office says, Davis confessed to the phone-calls, saying he was angry with his girlfriend, who attends Elyria High School.
Erie County/Assault suspect has warrant issued
Sandusky Police have issued a misdemeanor assault warrant for a man who allegedly punched a woman in the face on Wednesday.
Authorities responded to a Remington Avenue residence for a reported assault linked to 27-year-old William Crim of East Oldgate Road.
Crim reportedly agreed to meet police at an East Oldgate Road address that police learned did not exist, and then blocked all phone calls from authorities.
Ottawa County/Perry Memorial accessibility
Perry’s Victory and Peace Memorial on Put-in-Bay is seeking public comment concerning its accessibility.
The park is working on an accessibility plan on how they can become universally accessible for all visitors and employees.
The plan looks to address physical, structural and program changes that would assist those with disabilities.
Erie County/Free retirement advice
Serving Our Seniors in Erie County has received a state grant to help older adults best prepare for their retirement.
The organization will host six programs, “Money Matters: Ask an Expert”, in Castalia, Huron, Milan, Sandusky and Vermilion over the next nine months.
Perkins High School will be the site for the first four sessions, running on Wednesdays in October from 11:00 am to 12 noon.
Registration is strongly encouraged for the free programs.

-The Huron County Chamber of Commerce is hosting “The Great Outdoor Raffle” Saturday from 12 noon to 4:00 pm at the Huron County Fairgrounds Pickworth Building.
