Bellevue/Accidental suicide

The name of the man whose death has been ruled initially as an “accidental suicide” has been released.

Authorities say he was 36 year-old Chris Odell, who was born in Norwalk, attended Edison High School and was a lifelong area resident.

Police say a woman and child witnessed Odell shoot himself with a handgun on Kilbourne Street Tuesday …which appeared to them to be an accident.

Alcohol could’ve played a part in the death…according to police.

An autopsy will be performed.

 

Erie County/Sandusky Middle School student allegedly brings knife to school

A 13 year-old girl was arrested Wednesday at Sandusky Middle School after allegedly bringing a knife to school.

Police say she admitted to bringing the knife with her, but had no intentions of harming anyone.

She was taken to the Erie County Justice Juvenile Center.

 

Huron County/More than $31,000 going to Norwalk firefighters

Close to $32,000 in federal money has been awarded to the Norwalk Fire Department to help keep first responders and the public more safe.

The funds will be used for supplemental training, protective equipment upgrades and facility modifications.

 

Huron County/“Meet the Candidates Night”

Senior Enrichment Services in Norwalk has planned a “Meet the Candidates Night” for those running for the offices of Huron County Auditor and Huron County Commissioner.

It will take place October 10th at 5:00 pm.

Tony Schaffer from the Huron County Chamber of Commerce will host the event.

 

Erie County/Perkins Schools’ Bogart Road property to be sold

Perkins Schools will auction off their former administrative building on Bogart Road near U.S. 250, next month.

The most recent tenant, North Point Educational Service Center, relocated last year.

The auction is set for October 11th at 12 noon at the building’s location at 1210 Bogart Road.

 

Huron County/Willard City Schools Distinguished W Award

Willard students have partnered with school officials to establish the “Distinguished W Alumni Award”.

The honor will be given to civic and professional frontrunners in fields of business, education, law, medicine, the military, science and the arts.

The inaugural class of 2018 includes:

-Retired US Army Colonel Daniel Barnett

-Retired US Air Force Chief Master Sergeant Bruce Durr Senior

-Retired US Air Force Colonel and former Prisoner of War Richard Vogel

-Tony Award Winner Randy Adams,

-Willard City Manager Jim Ludban

-Osman Hooper Award winner for news photography Jean Murray

These recipients will be honored on September 28th in the Willard High School Auditeria before the Homecoming football game; and will be recognized at halftime as well.
