Today marks the 17th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the United States, and a number of observations are being held locally throughout the day.
For example, tonight…there will be a service on Ely Square in downtown Elyria.

Erie County/Man sentenced to death wants a reprieve
47 year-old Curtis Clinton of Sandusky has motioned the Ohio Supreme Court to postpone his death sentence scheduled for September of 2021.
Clinton was found guilty of killing 23 year-old Heather Jackson, her 3 year-old daughter and infant son; in 2012.
Clinton says he wants the execution date delayed until he’s exhausted all available remedies, including post-conviction appeals.
Ottawa County/Accused child rapist found competent for trial
An accused child rapist from Port Clinton has been found competent to stand trial following a psychological evaluation.
26 year-old Cody Habel is charged with three counts of rape; facing life in prison if convicted.
His trial will begin in late October.
Huron County/Stolen van in Norwalk
Police in Norwalk are searching for a man they believe stole a white Ford van from in front of St. Paul Catholic Church on Monday.
Authorities say the suspect is a white male and that a video is posted of him on the police department’s Facebook page.
Erie-Lorain County/Vermilion high-speed chase
A woman was arrested by Vermilion Police late Saturday after allegedly driving faster than 130 miles-per-hour.
Police say they first saw the woman’s vehicle on Liberty Avenue and followed her into Lorain where she stopped her car on West Erie Avenue after reportedly driving through multiple yards.
Criminal charges are pending following a mental evaluation.
Erie County/Woman faces animal cruelty charge
A Sandusky woman has been charged with animal cruelty after two of her dogs were found malnourished.
According to police, a search warrant was executed on West Monroe Street where they found the dogs in cages, belonging to 18 year-old Naleah Khiaosoth.
Custody of the dogs was signed over to the Erie County dog pound.
Huron County/Property value estimates can be viewed online
Huron County property value estimates for 2018 evaluation are now available for review…according to Auditor Roland Tkach.
They can be found on the auditor’s website (www.huroncountyauditor.org) or by giving the auditor’s office a call.
Erie County/Ice cream social with Sandusky first-responders
Tonight in Sandusky, it’s “Sub-Zero with a Hero”.
Toft’s Dairy is hosting the event where you can enjoy ice cream and conversation with Sandusky firefighters and police officers.
It runs from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
