Erie County/One killed in fatal crash on U.S. 250

A Huron woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash this morning on U.S. 250 in Erie County.

Ceetta Foster was 60 years-old.

According to the Highway Patrol, Foster was going north on U.S. 250 in a SUV when she failed to yield the right of way while turning left onto Mason Road…where she was struck by a pick-up truck coming in the other direction.

 

Sandusky County/Married couples’ deaths being investigated

Authorities are investigating the deaths of a married couple in Fremont on Monday.

Police say they responded to a call about an unresponsive male and female at a home on Willow Street where they found a couple in their 50’s both dead.

There were no signs of foul play.

 

Huron County/33 years for Durst

Convicted rapist McClain Durst of Sandusky has been sentenced to 33 years in prison.

The prison term was handed down Tuesday in Huron County Common Pleas Court after Durst was found guilty of multiple felonies last week including four counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, two charges of rape and a count of sexual battery.

Durst maintains his innocence and plans to appeal.

 

Local News/Schools closed for heat

With temps forecasted in the 90’s and a heat index near 100 today, some area schools have closed.

Those include Edison elementary and middle schools, Norwalk elementary and middle schools, Huron City Schools, Margaretta, Monroeville, Perkins, Sandusky City Schools and Sandusky Central Catholic.

 

State News/Patrol reports fewer fatal crashes for Labor Day holiday

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is reporting 13 fewer traffic fatalities over the four-day Labor Day Holiday as compared to last year.

There were 11 fatal crashes which claimed 11 lives – a decrease from 2017 when 22 fatal crashes killed 24 people.

However, troopers say they arrested nearly 900 drivers for OVI and issued over 7,000 safety belt citations, both increases over 2017.

 

Erie County/Sandusky man charged with domestic violence

A Sandusky man faces charges of misdemeanor domestic violence and unlawful restraint.

38 year-old Denardo Dante was arrested Monday after a woman claimed that Dante prevented her from leaving a cookout on Campbell Street.

 

Erie County/BGSU Firelands annual “College Night” is next week

The 48th annual “College Night” at BGSU Firelands takes place next Tuesday, September 11th from 6:00 to 7:30 pm.

The free event is open to the public and provides opportunities for attendees to meet with admission representatives from over 60 educational institutions.

 

Erie County/Sandusky residents urged to “grow” their spirit for Bicentennial

Sandusky continues its 200th birthday celebration with a “Beard-centennial” contest.

The competition runs now through November 23rd at the city’s Holiday Lighting Ceremony.

Various prizes will be handed out in several categories including “Best End of Year Growth”, “Longest Beard” and “Worst Facial Hair”.
