Huron County/McClain rape case

Witnesses have spoken…closing arguments are complete…with jury deliberations expected to begin this morning in Huron County Common Pleas Court.

Sandusky’s McClain Durst is accused of sexually assaulting four victims inside of vehicles in June and July of last year.

Durst, who waived his right to testify yesterday, faces charges of rape, unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, importuning and sexual battery.

 

Erie County/$7+ million awarded in malpractice case

Over $7 million was awarded to the family of a Vermilion woman in a medical malpractice case against two local neurologists.

Doctors from Advanced Neurologic Associates, Inc. were accused of failing to realize in time that Marlyn Day had a brain infection in 2013, which led to permanent brain damage.

Day, now 81 years-old, is incapacitated and lives in a Vermilion nursing home.

 

Sandusky County/Man missing from Fremont

The family of a 36 year-old Fremont man has reported him missing.

Dennis Wyant-the second hasn’t been since Sunday night.

Wyant’s family told police that he does often disappear for days at a time.

Authorities found his vehicle, but not him.

Police say there were no signs of foul play.

 

Sandusky County/Woman to jail for work theft

A former office manager of a Fremont towing company has been sentenced to a year in county jail for embezzling money from her employer.

48 year-old Janet Sanderson was found guilty of three counts of misdemeanor theft and must also pay $10,000 in restitution to former employer, Triple J Towing.

 

Sandusky-Erie County/Clyde superintendent given new contract

The superintendent of Clyde-Green Springs Schools will be around for a while.

Dennis Haft has been given a new three-year contract taking him through the summer of 2022.

Haft, whose contract would’ve expired next August, also recently received a $5,000 raise, bumping his salary to $115,000.

 

State News/Senator Brown: Upgrade schools

Yesterday, 18 schools in Cleveland were closed due to extreme heat and no air conditioning.

Now, U-S Senator Sherrod Brown is calling on his colleagues to pass a bill that would earmark 100-BILLION-dollars over 10 years, to upgrade schools.

Meanwhile, some Ohio school systems that were beaten by the heat a year ago, are trying to beat the heat THIS year by opening after Labor Day…

 

State News/Ohio launches strategic plan for education

State officials yesterday unveiled a five-year strategic plan for education.

“Each Child, Our Future” seeks to lift aspirations, guide development of state-level policies and promote quality education practices across the state.

 

Lorain County/Homes for dogs

Volunteers with the Lorain County Dog Kennel in Elyria have taken to social media, to find homes for their pups.

They say, they have way too many dogs at the kennel, and need “forever homes” as soon as possible.

 

Erie County/Perkins’ new superintendent to appear at tailgate party

Residents and students at Perkins Schools are invited to meet new superintendent Todd Boggs and his family this Friday at a tailgate party for the Pirates’ football home opener.

It will take place at the stadium from 5:00 to 6:30 pm with free food and beverages.
