Norwalk/Infant death
A 17-month-old’s death in Norwalk on Monday is believed to be due to the child not being able to breathe.
No foul play is suspected where authorities say the baby was laid down for a nap at a Milan North Apartment home on Bouscay Avenue; and was discovered not breathing a short time later.
Tests to determine the exact cause of death are pending.
Monroeville/House fire
A fire early Saturday at a Monroeville home left the house close to a total loss.
No one was hurt at the home of Jim and Gina Bond on South Ridge Street, after Jim, the only one home at the time, heard a smoke alarm and escaped safely.
The blaze is believed to have started in the kitchen.
Sandusky/Central Catholic school receives $1 donation
Nearly $1 million has been donated to Sandusky Central Catholic School.
The school’s education program is a beneficiary of the Arthur and Mildred Link Trust fund.
Arthur was a 1939 graduate of St. Mary’s High School and 2001 Hall of Fame inductee, who passed away in 2013.
Sandusky/Clean-up
Sandusky city commissioners have organized a public meeting geared towards cleaning up six neighborhoods.
Officials are looking to place dumpsters in designated areas to allow for residents to dispose of waste free of charge; and to find out what projects could help clean up those neighborhoods.
The meeting is set for Monday at 6:00 pm at City Hall.
Monroeville seeking new basketball coach
Monroeville High School will be in search for a new boys’ varsity basketball coach next season.
The school says that coach Al Mielcarek will be recommended for non-renewal at their April board of education meeting due to a lack of progress in the program and failure to meet expectations.
Mielcarek spent two years at Monroeville, with 1 win this past season and 3 wins the season before.
Norwalk/Special Olympics charity basketball game tonight
In recognition of Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, a Special Olympics basketball game will be held this evening at Norwalk High School.
The event pits the Huron County Bears, consisting of Huron County Board of Developmental Disabilities’ Special Olympics basketball team members, against the Huron County Celebrity All-Stars; featuring local business and service professionals and first responders.
Admission is free with donations of non-perishable food items accepted to benefit the Salvation Army of Norwalk.
It all begins at 6:00 pm.
