Norwalk/Fire victims died of smoke inhalation

The cause of death; smoke and soot inhalation, for the three victims of the Norwalk fatal house fire on Friday.

This according to Huron County Coroner Dr. Jeffrey Harwood.

Local authorities said there were no working smoke detectors in the house on Park Ridge Court where the early morning blaze took the lives of Robert Griggs Junior, his wife Rebecca and their adult son, James.

Two dogs also perished in the fire.

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.

 

Norwalk/Maple City Ice strike is over

The five-month strike by workers at Maple City Ice in Norwalk has ended.

In an email to the Norwalk Reflector, Maple City Ice President Pat Hipp said the Teamsters Union representing the striking workers made an unconditional offer to return to work this past Monday, which the company accepted.

 

Sandusky/Accused rapist faces new charges

Accused serial rapist McClain Durst, of Sandusky, faces new charges.

Durst has been indicted on a new count of first-degree felony rape and unlawful sexual conduct with a minor from an alleged incident last July in Huron County.

He has been in jail since last July on similar charges from a separate reported incident in the West Clarksfield area of Huron County.

Durst has a third rape case pending in Sandusky County from alleged acts in 2015.

 

Perkins Township/Woman going to jail for 2016 crash

A Perkins Township woman has been sentenced to 17 months in prison for attempted aggravated vehicular homicide.

27 year-old Morgan Bauer will also spend an additional 180 days in jail for operating a vehicle while intoxicated during the 2016 crash on Columbus Avenue that severely injured 24 year-old Mallory Logan of Sandusky.

 

Sandusky/Firelands names new VP

Firelands Regional Medical Center has promoted Jim Spicer to Vice President of Operations.

Spicer, who resides on Catawba Island with his family, has worked at the hospital for 13 years where he’s spent time in various roles such as assistant vice president of operations and area director of pharmacy services.

 

Ohio/State rankings of best places to raise family

The website Wallethub has released rankings of the best and worst places in Ohio to raise a family.

Toledo suburb, Perrysburg, ranked as the best; with Cleveland and East Cleveland ranked at the very bottom.

Norwalk came in 101st out of 185 locations on the list.

In the Lorain County area, Avon placed 38th and North Ridgeville was 39th and Vermilion was 79th.

The rankings looked at factors such as education, health and safety, and affordability.
