Port Clinton/Fatal Overdoses

Three people have died in the past week to suspected drug overdoses in Ottawa County.

Authorities issued an overdose advisory Tuesday to warn residents of a potentially bad batch of drugs in the region.

Overall, five people are believed to have overdosed during the week.

 

Train derailment/Attica

Officials are investigating the cause of a train derailment Monday night near Attica.

According to The Toledo Blade, no injuries were reported and no hazardous materials were involved during the Norfolk Southern Railway accident that took place near Reeds Township Road 122 and State Route 4.

Nine of the train’s 53 cars reportedly jumped the tracks.

 

Trump/Clyde Whirlpool plant

Ohio’s U.S. senators Sherrod Brown and Rob Portman are applauding a decision by President Trump to impose tariffs on imported washing machines; which apparently will have a positive impact on Clyde’s Whirlpool plant.

Brown said it is welcome news for Clyde workers whose jobs have been threatened by a surge of “cheap” washers; with the tariffs to help level the playing field.

The Whirlpool factory in Clyde employs 3,400 people.

 

Erie County/Pre-trial programs

Pre-trial programs saved Erie County a record-$13 million last year according to local officials.

Those programs which reportedly save money by keeping low-level offenders out of jail include house arrest, ankle bracelets and curfews.

Officials say the pre-trial methods are more effective because only 15 percent of those offenders violate their probation and need to be sent to prison.

 

Patrol/Human Trafficking

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently collaborating with nearby state law enforcement agencies and the Truckers Against Trafficking organization to raise awareness about human trafficking.

The weeklong initiative’s goal is to train and educate those who are in a position to see human trafficking taking place, such as commercial motor vehicle drivers, public transportation companies, rest area attendants and truck stop employees.

 

Sandusky/Teens steal car

Sandusky police are looking for two likely teenage boys that allegedly stole a car early Tuesday.

Police were able to recover the car on Franklin Street but have not located the likely suspects.

The car, which was unlocked and running, was reportedly taken from outside a home on Lindsley Street.
