Willard man found dead in Colombia
The family and friends of a Willard man are in shock after he was discovered dead in the South American country of Colombia.
Herbert Kendrick was 69.
His son, Jacob Kendrick of Tiffin, not knowing of his dad’s whereabouts, said he received a Facebook message with the tragic news last week from someone claiming to be an agent from the U.S. Embassy in Colombia.
After a welfare check, a neighbor told authorities that Herbert Kendrick had left for Colombia the day before Thanksgiving.
Kendrick apparently died on January 1st due to septic shock, likely caused by not having his diabetes medication.
Jacob Kendrick was unaware of why his father went to Colombia as he had no family or friends there.
Willard man headed to prison for receiving stolen property
A Willard man is going to prison for three years.
28 year-old Kipling Duncan-the-second pled guilty on Tuesday to a count of receiving stolen property and trespassing from an incident last June.
Tom’s Toys owner trial has been delayed
The trial has been delayed for a man from Marblehead charged with 15 counts of felony theft involving his outdoor vehicle dealership.
42 year-old Thomas Owens allegedly sold vehicles at his Port Clinton dealership, Tom’s Toys on Catawba Road, without turning over the title of ownership to the new owner.
Owens has pled not guilty to the charges.
The trial will begin March 13th in Ottawa County.
Norwalk discussing future of cell phone tower
The city of Norwalk is weighing options when it comes to a lease agreement with a cell phone tower.
The city is in the second year of a 40-year lease with the tower, which makes the city around $900 per month.
The city could sell its part of the lease for $150,000 or keep the lease; which could bring in over $700,000.
Officials have discussed possibly using the $150,000 to assist with the city’s projected 2018 deficit of $807,000.
Willard schools looking into building a new performing arts center
The Willard City School board discussed this week the possibility of a new performing arts center.
It would replace the current auditorium used for concerts and plays.
A non-profit group, the Willard P-A-C Project, has been formed to raise funds for the future facility.
Superintendent Jeff Ritz said the board would have to approve an earned income tax to help fund the project.
New “22+ program” being started at Sandusky Schools
Sandusky Schools are introducing its “22-plus” program for adults without a high school diploma or GED that are looking to obtain one.
The free program is for Ohio residents 22 and older; and allows people to work at home from any computer while receiving help from qualified teachers.
Volunteers needed at Firelands Regional Medical Center
Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky is looking for a few good men and women to help volunteer in various ways.
Volunteers are needed in areas such as patient and guest relations, clerical and the information desk.
