Rain or shine, the fifth annual Norwalk Autumn Leaves Festival will be held tomorrow in uptown Norwalk.
Registration for the Cutest Baby Contest will be held between 8 and 11am. The contest itself will begin at 12:30. From 10 until 11, Pet-N-Pup check-in and judging will be held at the Main Street School. The Pet-N-Pup parade will open the festival, at 11. There’s going to be inflatables for the kids, a car and truck show, pony rides, artists, crafters and much more. At 3:30, it’s the Uptown Café Gridiron Pizza Challenge, and Cynthia Kniffin Dance Academy Ballerina Lifting Challenge. Live music can be heard in the afternoon and evening hours. The Autumn Leaves Festival will end at 8.
The Massillon man accused of causing Tuesday’s fatal crash in downtown Bellevue is out of the hospital.
Charges are pending, against 24-year-old Morgan Jevec. Lt. Douglas Hammon, commander of the Norwalk Patrol Post said investigators are reconstructing the accident, conducting interviews and awaiting toxicology test results. He also said it could take two weeks to complete the investigation. While traveling at a high rate of speed, Jevec’s car slammed into an SUV driven by 36-year-old Tracy Albright of Bellevue. Both cars burst into flames. Albright died in the crash, while Jevec and three passengers suffered serious injuries. Another car was hit. The driver escaped with minor injuries.
Four teenage girls are facing charges, for causing a disturbance outside the Erie County Juvenile Detention Center.
It happened late Wednesday night. Reports indicate the girls, ages 14 to 17 were intoxicated, while running around the exterior of the building, pounding on inmates’ windows and yelling.
Sandusky police were called in to arrest the girls, and escort them into the building for an overnight stay.
Ohio’s unemployment rate rose slightly in August.
It was 7.3 percent, compared to 7.2 percent in July according to figures released this morning by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. The 7.3 percent rate matches the U.S. unemployment rate.
