St. Paul grad sentenced to three years in roommate’s stabbing death
23-year-old Kendal Scheid of Norwalk was sentenced Tuesday in Akron to three years in prison in connection with the stabbing death of his college roommate, 23-year-old Duncan Unternaher of Newark.
Scheid previously plead guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the incident that happened last December during a drunken argument over fast food.
Scheid is eligible for judicial release in six months with good behavior.
Many classic cars destroyed in fire
Over $650,000 of damage was done when a storage building housing several classic cars went up in flames Sunday night in Peru Township.
Owner Dave Nickoli said he lost more than two dozen vehicles in the blaze.
The cause of the fire on Remelle Road in Huron County is still undetermined.
Stolen goods and suspected drugs found in car in Sandusky
A Michigan couple was arrested Saturday in Sandusky after close to $6,000 in alleged stolen merchandise and suspected heroin were found in their car.
Authorities also believe that 51-year-old James and 56-year-old Patricia Snowdy could be part of a theft ring in Ohio and Michigan.
The couple was pulled over on U.S. 250 after police received a call about a theft at the JC Penney outlet at the Sandusky Mall.
Erie County voting recounts keeps results the same
The Erie County Board of Elections has confirmed the final votes for two tightly-contested races back on Election Day.
The results stay the same…with the Edison Schools levy failing by just 12 votes and Kate Vargo and Brigitte Green-Churchwell winning the two seats in the Sandusky school board race; with Green-Churchwell receiving a dozen votes more than Sonia McCarty.
Huron County military veterans recognized
Two Huron County military veterans were honored over the weekend.
Norwalk U.S. Navy vet Tom Price was named the 2017 Huron County Veteran of the Year at the Huron County Area Veterans Council banquet in Bellevue on Saturday.
Bellevue’s Donn Rospert, a U.S. Marine, was also recognized for his recent induction into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame in Columbus.
VLFCU hosting toy drive at Sandusky Mall this Saturday
VacationLand Federal Credit Union will hold their sixth annual “Gifts for Kids” toy drive this Saturday at the Sandusky Mall.
The community is invited to stuff the new VLFCU Van from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm with new, unwrapped toys for boys and girls.
Monetary and toy donations are also being accepted this week at all local VLFCU branches.
Donations will benefit families served by Erie and Huron County’s Department of Job and Family Services.
New ferry coming to The Miller Boat Line
The Miller Boat Line at Put-in-Bay in is in the process of acquiring a new ferry.
They’ve awarded a contract to a group in Seattle to design its new vessel; which will likely go into service in 2019.
The cost of the 140 foot-long ferry will be around $7 million; and will hold close to 100 more people than a ship it will likely replace.
