Investigation into Monroeville baby’s death still ongoing
An investigation continues into the death of a Monroeville baby.
The 15-month-old reportedly died earlier this month at a residence on Graham Road; which authorities think could’ve been due to abuse.
According to Huron County Coroner Jeffrey Harwood, there were no signs of physical abuse, but the cause of death is still unknown.
Autopsy results are pending.
Willard man and woman charged with forgery
Two Willard residents have been charged with forgery relating to an ongoing investigation involving counterfeit bills.
28-year-old Kyle Weiner and 27-year-old Marcia Barnett were transported to the Huron County Jail following an executed search warrant on Motson Street.
Suspected drugs and drug paraphernalia were also found during the bust.
Norwalk boy criminally charged after running from authorities
A 10-year-old Norwalk boy faces criminal charges after he allegedly punched a wall repeatedly and tried to run away from authorities while at school.
The boy was charged with obstructing official business as well as charges of ‘delinquent juvenile’ and ‘unruly child’ in relation to the incident that took place Monday at North Point Educational Service Center in Sandusky.
Castalia man going to prison for wire fraud
A 50-year-old man from Castalia has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison for wire fraud and conspiracy involving an alleged scheme to defraud a glass container manufacturer.
Michael Conrad, former manager of Castalia Farms, agreed to plead guilty to the charges after making a deal with federal prosecutors to testify against other conspirators.
Conrad reportedly collaborated with another company to commit the fraud in exchange for kickbacks.
Sandusky nursing home closing
A nursing home in west Sandusky has announced that it’s shutting down.
Genacross Lutheran Services on Bardshar Road will close February 11th due to factors such as continued monetary loss and the number of residents decreasing.
Around 50 people will likely lose their jobs along with 43 residents being forced to relocate.
The facility once known as ‘Lutheran Memorial Home’ first opened in 1979.
Use of food stamps down in Erie County
Usage of food stamps has decreased over the last five years in Erie County.
The numbers have dropped 20 percent from just over 6,200 in 2012 to around 4,900 last year.
Executive Director Karen Balconi believes the numbers are down due to the country coming out of a recession.
