Tornadoes confirmed in Erie and Sandusky County

As clean-up from storms continue throughout the area today, officials from the National Weather Service have confirmed a tornado touched down in both Erie and Sandusky Counties on Sunday.

The F-1 tornado, the second lowest category, reportedly caused a camper to flip over in Oxford Township and ripped the roof off a home on State Route 412 in Townsend Township.

In Huron County, high winds are believed to be the cause of significant damage; leaving about 7,000 customers without power during the storms worst point, which has forced Western Reserve schools to be closed today and Monday.

 

It’s Election Day

It’s Election Day, with many races and issues on the ballot here locally.

Schools in Huron County with monetary issues include Edison, EHOVE, Monroeville and South Central.

In Norwalk, five candidates are squaring off for four city council seats; and there’s also a fire department and Sunday liquor sales option on the ballot in the maple city.

In Willard, eight candidates are up for three spots on the school board.

Throughout the state, voters will cast their ballot on Issue 1 regarding rights of crime victims; and Issue 2 that focuses on prescription drug prices.

All polling locations are open 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.  Bring identification.

 

Cops: Man robbed at gunpoint on Tyler St.

Sandusky Police are looking into an alleged robbery at gunpoint on Sunday morning.

The 52-year-old male victim told authorities that a man pointed a handgun at him and demanded money; while he was parked in front of a home on Tyler Street.

The alleged thief stole around $120 and reportedly fled north on Maple Avenue.

 

Two local social workers honored

Two Erie County social workers have been recognized by the state for superior work.

Laurie Fogg of Sandusky has been given the Public Children Services Association of Ohio’s Support Staff of the Year Award.

Huron resident AJ Lill also was the runner-up for the Ohio Outstanding Child Protection Supervisor of the Year honor.

 

Perkins High School with new electronic sign

Perkins High School has installed a new electronic sign in front of the school.

The sign costing $42,000, paid for mostly through donations from recent graduates, will display student accomplishments and school announcements.

 

Man from Vermilion returns to ‘Jeopardy’ tonight

A Vermilion man is returning to the game show “Jeopardy” after taking home over $100,000 there last December while winning seven consecutive times.

2000 Vermilion High School grad Tim Aten will appear on tonight’s ‘Tournament of Champions’ episode.
