The highway patrol is investigating a Sunday evening car/motorcycle crash that left one person dead.

22-year-old Katie Chen of China was a passenger on a motorcycle hit by a car on U.S. Route 250, near Route 2. She was taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center, then to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, where she was pronounced dead. The driver of the motorcycle, Jerry Vara of Sandusky was taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center. The driver of the car was not hurt.

 

To Tiffin, where six people died, when fire swept through their mobile home.

The blaze broke out yesterday morning, and claimed a 25-year-old man, and five children, ranging in age from 2 to 6. The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause.

The Huron County Board of Elections is reminding residents that Monday, October 7th is the deadline to register to vote, or update information, to vote in the November 5th general election.

You’re qualified to register, if you’re a U.S. citizen who’s 18 on or before election day. You can register to vote at the board office in the Huron County Administration building in Norwalk. Voter registration forms are also available at the Norwalk License Bureau, Huron County Treasurer’s Office, the Department of Job and Family Services and local libraries.

 

It’s a way for high school students and their parents to learn more about higher education and financial aid.

Between 6:30 and 8 tomorrow night, BGSU Firelands will host a 43rd Annual College Night.  Representatives from more than 60 in-state and out-of-state colleges and universities will be on hand to provide information and answer questions.  College night is a free program.

 

Ohio’s deer-archery season will open September 28th and run through February 2nd.

More than 200,000 hunters are expected to participate.  The statewide limit is nine deer, but hunters cannot exceed a county bag limit.

 

A reminder…

4:30 until 5:30 this afternoon is when State Representative Chris Redfern will hold a Town Hall Meeting at the Perkins Township Hall on Columbus Avenue.  Redfern will listen to residents’ concerns and answer questions.

 

Wednesday’s Powerball jackpot has grown to $400 million.

Tomorrow’s Mega Millions prize is worth $130 million, and tonight’s Ohio Classic Lotto jackpot is up to $46.3 million.
