Authorities investigating student incidents at Western Reserve High School
Two separate incidents involving students late last week at Western Reserve High School are under investigation by authorities.
The first took place Thursday morning involving a male and female on campus and alleged sexual offenses and gross sexual imposition on school property.
Also on Thursday, around the time school was released, two male students were reportedly involved in an altercation which resulted in unruly juvenile and disorderly conduct charges being filed.
Fremont man charged with burglary after breaking into home
A 30-year-old Fremont man turned himself in to authorities Tuesday after allegedly breaking into a home and exchanging gunfire with the resident.
Mychal Scott has been charged with felonious assault and burglary.
According to police, Scott kicked in a door to a multi-family home on Christy Boulevard Tuesday morning and took an air conditioner.
No one was hurt in the shooting.
Latest state unemployment figures
Only three Ohio counties saw an increase in unemployment during September.
Erie County happened to be one of those though; according to the latest figures from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.
Erie County’s jobless rate rose to 5.9 percent from 5.6 in August.
In Huron County, unemployment decreased; down to 4.8 percent from 5.1 a month ago.
Unemployment in Lorain County was at 6.3 percent for September.
Counterfeit money reported in Sandusky
Perkins Township Police are looking into reported counterfeit money recently taken in at a gas station.
A total of three phony $20 bills were allegedly accepted by employees at the Friendship on West Perkins Avenue.
The bills have the words “for motion picture only” on the front and “The Money Production” on the back.
Erie County Community Foundation hands out grants
The Erie County Community Foundation has announced the distribution of over $106,000 in grants to 25 local non-profits.
Among those receiving grant money were the Boys and Girls Club of Erie County, who were given $8,770 for a roof top air handling unit; and $8,000 to the Second Harvest Food Bank for their food pantry.
Firelands Historical Society hosting Halloween-related event
A couple of Halloween-themed activities are going on at the Firelands Historical Society in Norwalk.
For the second straight year, they’re hosting their “Spirits of the Museum” event.
The family-friendly activity takes place Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 pm with actor-portrayals of local historical figures of the past.
They are also conducting a scavenger hunt now through October 31st that focuses on locations in downtown Norwalk; with a first prize of $200, in honor of Norwalk’s bicentennial.
