Patrol investigating fatal crash in Erie County
The Highway Patrol is investigating a two vehicle fatal crash that occurred Tuesday evening in Vermilion Township.
A jeep on Route 2 west reportedly drove between the two bridges that cross over Route 60; eventually going airborne over the northbound lanes of 60.
The jeep landed in the southbound lanes of Route 60 where it was struck by a pickup truck.
The male driver of the jeep died at the scene; while the pickup driver, 45 year-old James Wade of Vermilion, was not injured.
Wade’s juvenile passenger received minor injuries.
Latest unemployment numbers
The unemployment rates for Huron and Erie County dropped in the latest numbers released from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.
For Huron County, the jobless rate fell from 8 percent in July to 5.1 percent in August.
In Erie County, the rate dropped from 6.7 percent in July to 5.6 percent in August.
As a state, Ohio’s rate slightly increased from 5.2 percent to 5.4 percent.
Fired Norwalk Reflector employee admits to stealing from Sandusky Register newsstands
A former employee of the Norwalk Reflector has admitted to stealing from newsstands owned by sister-paper, the Sandusky Register.
35 year-old Shawn Meagrow of Norwalk, who was fired from the Reflector in August, has confessed to two thefts at newsstands in Bellevue and Norwalk.
Nine thefts at various newsstands in the area have been reported since late August; which is under investigation.
Sandusky police investigating pedestrian/vehicle incident
Sandusky authorities are investigating a possible vehicular assault that happened early Monday morning.
A 21 year-old male pedestrian from Sandusky, who was discovered injured and lying on the road, was allegedly hit by a car near Hayes Avenue and Decatur Street; which drove away.
The victim received treatment for his injuries.
State Route 4 work to continue through March
State Route 4 from U.S. 20 in Bellevue to Perkins Avenue in Sandusky will continue to be reduced to one lane of traffic for a resurfacing and bridge repair project.
The first portion of project will be on Route 4, from U.S. 20 to the Ohio Turnpike.
The entire project is expected to be complete by March of 2018.
NEDC Innovation Award handed out
The Norwalk Economic Development Group honored a number of local businesses during the recent awards event.
Maple City Builders received the “Innovation Award” after transitioning the former empty Kmart building into the business, “Water Source”.
Norwalk’s Steve Zigo was also recognized by the group for his extraordinary achievements in economic development.
Norwalk United Fund “Dine-out” starts again today
The Norwalk Area United Fund’s “Dine-out” fundraiser starts back up today.
A portion of today’s sales at the Pizza Post in Norwalk will go to support the organization’s 2018 Community Campaign that assists with 34 local programs and grants.
