Former EMA Director Bill Ommert passes away, 9-1-1 Coordinator position coming for Huron County
Huron County Commissioners have four interviews planned for a permanent EMA Director.
Long-time EMA Director Bill Ommert, who was serving as Interim Director, passed away Thursday at the age of 77 to cancer.
Former director Jason Roblin resigned in July.
The county is also looking to hire for their new full-time position of 9-1-1 Coordinator.
State Patrol investigating injury hit-skip crash in New Haven
The Highway Patrol’s Norwalk Post is investigating a hit-skip crash involving a motorcycle that took place early Monday evening in New Haven.
According to the Patrol, a motorcycle driven by 54 year-old Tamera Cook of Norwalk was hit by a car on Ohio 103 that failed to yield at a stop sign at the intersection of Ohio 598.
Cook was treated for injuries at Mercy Health Willard Hospital.
The driver of the vehicle reportedly fled the scene north on Peru-Center Road in a four-door gold/beige car.
New Norwalk finance director sworn in
There’s a new finance director in Norwalk.
Michelle Reeder has been sworn in; with her first day last Friday.
The 1996 St. Paul graduate replaces Diane Eschen, who has retired following 45 years with the city.
Reeder had been assistant finance director with Norwalk since 2011.
Two trials in Ottawa County scheduled to get underway today
Two notable Ottawa County court cases are set to begin today.
32 year-old Bradley Corbin was indicted last year on arson charges for allegedly starting a fire at the restaurant he owned, Sloopy’s Sports Café, which burned down.
In another trial, 81 year-old Put-in-Bay Mayor Bernard “Mac” McCann goes to court this week for allegedly driving without a license.
Between November of 2016 and January of this year, McCann reportedly received five citations dealing with unlawfully operating a vehicle.
Road closure in Willard/New Haven
U.S. 224 at the railroad tracks between Willard and New Haven will be closed for the next two weeks.
The closure is due to drainage improvements.
‘Project DAWN’ event next Tuesday in Willard
Huron County Public Health is hosting a “Project DAWN” drug-overdose antidote event next Tuesday in Willard.
Narcan (naloxone) kits will be distributed at the Willard library from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on a first-come, first-serve basis.
