Former Huron County Sheriff’s Deputy to not be charged after investigation
A former Huron County Sheriff’s Deputy will not face criminal charges following an investigation of an incident involving him and two inmates.
Robert Lombardo of Willard resigned from the sheriff’s office earlier this month amid the investigation.
The July 24th incident that left a prisoner injured had been under review by Erie County Prosecuting Attorney Kevin Baxter.
$6 million townhouse project coming to Huron
A development of 20 new townhouses is coming to Huron at the former site of ConAgra.
The first phase of the $6 million project near the public boat ramp off U.S. 6 will feature the installation of utilities along with a public park and new roadway.
Construction is expected to begin in July of next year and be completed no longer than a year later.
Renovations being done to Sandusky High School
Renovations are going on now at Sandusky High School.
Projects involving the high school’s auditorium’s stage air venting system and roof are near completion; with additional improvements to be made next year to the planetarium and science labs.
The renovations are a portion of the $70 million project that was approved by voters last fall.
Recent awarding of funds by Mylander Foundation
The Mylander Foundation has recently awarded over $154,000 in grants to Erie County organizations covering 27 projects.
$34,300 to Nehemiah Partners for air conditioning and electrical upgrades to their gymnasium, $25,000 of that going to the Humane Society of Erie County for remodeling and $20,000 to the Volunteers of America Crossroads Shelter for renovations.
Vacant Norwalk city council seat has two applicants
The Norwalk city council seat vacated by the resignation of Kelly Beck has two applicants so far.
Norwalk High School teacher Chris Jackson and business owner and former council member Dwight Tkach have both applied.
Applications for the vacant seat will be taken through this Friday.
Beck, who served for five years, resigned due to moving with his family to Collins.
State representative working on legislation involving pets
An Ohio State Representative has introduced a bill to make shelter animals the official state pet.
Republican Laura Lanese of Grove City, near Columbus, is looking to promote animal adoption with House Bill 319.
Lanese is also working on House Bill 263, which would allow consumers to bring their dogs on restaurant patios.
