Train derailment in Norwalk Wednesday
A train carrying Lyme stone derailed in Norwalk Wednesday afternoon forcing the closure of surrounding roads.
The derailment took place when tracks broke west of Benedict Avenue and U.S. 250 (Main Street); which caused the derailment of nine train cars.
No injuries were reported and no hazardous materials spilled.
Young girl ‘upset’ during possible drug overdose incident in Willard
Authorities in Willard are investigating a possible drug overdose incident on Spring Street Monday night.
29 year-olds John Leitz of Plymouth and Rachel Garcia of Willard were both taken to Mercy Health Willard Hospital for treatment after a prescription drug bottle was discovered.
Huron County Department of Job and Family Services were contacted when the couples’ 7 year-old daughter was reportedly upset when authorities arrived.
Bid for Norwalk fire station construction under estimate
A $3.43 million bid has been awarded to a New Washington construction company for the building of Norwalk’s new fire station.
The bid came in close to a half-million dollars less than original estimates.
Studer-Obringer Construction was chosen among six bidders.
The City of Norwalk doesn’t expect to have any debt from the project due to account transfers and donations.
Willard police investigating recent vandalisms
Willard police are looking into numerous vandalisms that took place Monday night in the 500 block of Kennedy Drive.
A number of residents reported that racist obscenities were drawn on their property.
Norwalk city council member resigns
Norwalk city councilman Kelly Beck has resigned.
The at-large council member is selling his Norwalk home and moving to Collins for family reasons.
Council has a month to nominate a replacement.
Those interested can send a resume and cover letter to Norwalk City Council at 38 Whittlesey Avenue.
Beck has served for five-and-a-half years.
Sandusky Schools thinking about new pool
Sandusky Schools are milling over the possibility of a new swimming pool.
The school board listened this week to a committee that proposed a 15,000 square foot, 10 lane pool that would be attached to the high school’s rear parking lot.
The pool would cost around $5 million with the committee suggesting paying for it through the use of $2 million in approved bond funds along with a fundraiser to cover the rest.
The current pool was built in 1957.
Temporary bleachers to be used tonight at Norwalk football opener
Those attending the Willard at Norwalk season opening football game tonight will not be permitted to sit in the home bleachers.
It’s due to a couple of project delays and inspection of the new bleachers at Whitney Field.
Norwalk and St. Paul schools have come together to put temporary bleachers in place for tonight; which will be located on the track.
