Flags are being flown at half-staff, in honor of former Ohio Governor John Gilligan.
Gilligan died yesterday, at age 92. He served as governor from 1971-1975. The Democrat was responsible for the creation of the state income tax. In a prepared statement, Governor John Kasich said Gilligan served with honor and distinction.

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine has announced a new effort to fight synthetic marijuana.
DeWine said he’ll propose legislation that would speed up the process of banning new chemicals being used to make the drug. Some of the chemicals are currently available at such places as gas stations and convenience stores.
A state lawmaker says he plans to reintroduce legislation that would require adults seeking welfare to first pass a drug test.
Republican Tim Schaffer of Lancaster said he’ll release more details tomorrow. The proposal is expected to be similar to ones he’s pushed in previous years. Applicants would pay for the test and those who fail would be denied benefits and referred for treatment.
